This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer to join a small, fast moving team working on cutting edge vehicle electrification technology. The successful applicant will be involved in the mechanical design of power electronics products. The work will include concept design, prototype design, through to detailing of products for low, medium and high-volume production. The successful applicant must have the ability to analyse designs using various CAE tools. They must work well as part of a team but also be capable of self-management able to deliver high quality work to what can be tight deadlines.

Job Role:

  • Clean-sheet mechanical design and development of enclosures, heat exchangers and related electro-mechanical components for automotive power electronic products;
  • 3D CAD modelling and 2D Engineering drawings of components and assemblies;
  • Mechanical/Thermal/Fluid analysis of conceptual designs;
  • Build and test of prototype hardware;
  • Working autonomously and as part of a small, fast moving multi-disciplined team to achieve project objectives;
  • Working with other design engineers and the wider cross functional team;
  • Work to company quality standards.

Must have experience and skills in ALL of these areas below:

  • Creation of high-quality 3D models and assemblies using Solidworks or similar CAD tool;
  • Use of hand calculations and appropriate analysis software (ANSYS, MATLAB, STAR-CCM+, FLUENT etc) to validate designs;
  • Production of high quality 2D engineering drawings, for both manufacture and assembly, to BS8888;
  • Design, development and delivery of prototype/low volume components and related tooling;
  • Packaging of electronic components or assemblies in mechanical housings;
  • Appropriate selection of materials and manufacturing processes and design for manufacture principles;
  • Hands-on assembly of prototype hardware.

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Experience with Solidworks;
  • Experience with power electronics;
  • Experience with rotating electric machines;
  • Heat exchanger sizing and design;
  • Good understanding and experience of working with a wide variety of materials and production processes;
  • Ability to understand technical requirements and their influence on design;
  • BOM creation;
  • Liaison with suppliers/manufacturers;
  • Experience of working in a fast paced, delivery focussed environment.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Qualified to degree level (2:1 min) in Mechanical, Motorsport or Automotive engineering or equivalent;
  • Significant experience which may have been gained in automotive, motorsport, industrial electronics or aerospace sectors.
